POPS-OF-COLOR! - Interview with Kine Andersen

I'm a girl, 28 years old, living in Bergen, Norway. I have studied Graphic Design and art. Worked as a freelance Illustrator and Graphic Designer for 2 years. Also a member of the art duo Vakina, where I work with Vilde Andersen.

We love your style, what influenced it? What about it appeals to you?

Hm, my eye sight is very bad, so I think thats why I use such bright colors. And I grew up in the 90s, so I think much of my style is influenced by that century. Comics in teenage girl magazines, CD covers and logos. I have always been interested in logos, and in the 90s it was a lot of logos.

Do you feel your work reflects your personality? Why?

I have a hard time understanding my own feelings, so it is easier to draw them

What kind of feelings do you hope to evoke from people who look at your art?

I don't hope for anything, I'm just glad someone likes it, and I get very emotional when people send me messages about my art, and how they see them self in my illustrations. Teen-hood can feel like an emotional prison, and heartbreak like the end of the world.

What do you love most about illustrating?

That the end result never is the same as your original idea.

What’s one thing about your artwork that you’ve learned about yourself?

That I was really sad and lost in my teenage years. I taught of myself as and angry independent girl, but no, I was afraid and sad. I understand that now, because I have anger management problems still, but I lost the dark empty hole in my chest. And thats a good thing.

If you could collaborate with ANY artist, who would it be and why? (dead or alive)

Edward Munch. Just because I want to drink absinth and argue with him

What kind of environment do you enjoy working in?

I can work everywhere as long there is noise around me. I cant work when there is totally silence, then my thoughts rush trough my head, and I cant concentrate.

How do you get yourself out of a creative funk?

That is actually very difficult. My creative funk just comes to me, I try to find a way to work more systematic. But I haven't find the answer yet.

Do you have any goals for 2018?

My goals for 2018 is to get a better work flow and to stop smoking.

What is your favorite song, artist or band you enjoy listening to while you work?

There is a lot of Todd Terje and Lindstrøm, also Kendrick Lamar and Biggie. It depends on the mood. my taste in music range from hardcore punk to techno.
